SEMINAR ON OCCUPATIONAL

SAFETY AND HEALTH

IN THE MINING & QUARRYING INDUSTRY 2004

 
 

Theme : Towards Sustainable Mining & Quarrying Practices

Venue  : Swiss Garden Resort & Spa Damai Laut, Lumut, Perak

Date     : 20 September, 2004

 

Background

The Malaysian Chamber of Mines together with the Malaysia Quarries Association and the Institute of Quarrying Malaysia, as the lead organisations in the mining and quarrying industry in Malaysia, jointly organised a half-day Seminar presenting and discussing relevant matters and issues towards advancing and promoting occupational safety and health awareness in the mining and quarrying industry. Experts in their respective fields including representatives from relevant government authorities as well as the Seminar. A half day visit to a quarry site in Perak was also organised for Seminar participants

 

The joint organising of the Seminar was part of the said three organisations’ pro-active efforts towards highlighting, creating and increasing the awareness of employers, employees and the fraternity on the importance of occupational safety and health in the mining and quarrying industry.

 

Objectives

  • To encourage and accelerate the awareness and development of occupational safety and health as a work culture in the mining and quarrying industry.

  • To disseminate latest and updated information on the various policies and regulations pertaining to occupational safety and health in the workplace.

  • To highlight development and training programmes for employees in the mining and quarrying aimed at enhancing their knowledge and skills in the field of occupational safety and health.
