Theme: Minerals: Underpinning Yesterday's Needs, Today's Development and Tomorrow's Growth

Venue: Hotel Pacific Sutera, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Date: 22-24 June 2000

The primary objective of this Seminar was to provide a clear understanding of the mineral resources availability in the country and the opportunities for their development, processing and value-adding into high end manufactured products. The Seminar also highlighted the National Mineral Policy initiatives to further enhance investments in the industry. It also presented the various issues hindering mineral exploration and development, and the need to overcome them by the authorities in order to further enhance the industry's important contribution towards the nation's full industrialisation agenda under its Vision 2020. Nine working papers were presented by senior officials from related Ministries and government agencies and the mineral industry.

The Seminar was officially opened by the Chief Minister of Sabah, YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Hj. Osu Hj. Sukam. YB. Dato' Seri Dr. Lim Keng Yaik, the Minister of Primary Industries Malaysia delivered the Keynote Address. There was a field trip on the last day of the seminar on 24 June 2000.
