Symposium on Human Capital Development for the Mineral Resource Industry

 

INTRODUCTION

The Government recently announced that education would be one of the key areas of focus in pushing the country towards a high income economy. The mineral resource industry, being a lucrative and high technology industry, requires a steady stream of qualified, competent and skillful workforce to support and complement its continuous growth and advancement. This Symposium is organised to enable the private and public sectors and the academia to network and sit-down together to brain storm and came up with concrete resolutions on the way forward towards further and more effective industry and academia collaboration in the areas of human capital development.

 

Outcomes from this Symposium are for the relevant universities to comprehend the needs and expectations of the industry, and to be better equipped to plan curriculums to match industry trends. Through this collaboration , it is expected that the universities will be able to produce top-notch quality graduates possessing the necessary tools and skill-sets that meet industry needs.

SYMPOSIUM OBJECTIVES

To foster and nurture a closer interaction and stronger collaboration between the industry and the academia through a structured forum for in-depth discussion and knowledge sharing on human capital development for the mineral resource industry and deliverables at the IPTs.

To enable the industry to gain better insight with regard to the standard, strength and relevancy of the various mineral related course programmes presently offered at the IPTs, and to enable the academia to gain a better understanding of the industry’s present and future human capital needs.

To map out suitable programmes and activities that could help strengthened the standard and quality of the various course programmes at the IPTs, the competency level of the faculty members, and the students.
